Iím writing to tell you that my personal essay, "Jack," about my relationship with a six-year-old boy whom I counseled as a psychologist in a day treatment center has been accepted for publication by Prairie Schooner. I wrote this essay while in Marie Carterís Memoir II class.

I have had a number of plays produced, one play published, and Iíve received a number of honors for my playwriting. However, having an essay accepted by Prairie Schooner, a much respected literary journal, makes me feel more like a writer than any of the other things Iíve done.

Marieís enthusiastic response to "Jack" gave me the confidence to submit it to Prairie Schooner. If it hadnít been for her encouragement, I donít think I would have submitted to them. Marie also suggested that I write a collection of similar essays about my work as a psychologist in human service agencies; Iíve just completed my second essay toward this book.
