Scriptapalooza 8th Annual Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition: The early bird deadline is January 5, 2006 - Only $40. First prize is $10,000 and screenwriting software for the top 30 winners from Write Brothers. Over 70 production companies are reading all the entered scripts! All thirteen winners will be considered by Scriptapalooza's outstanding participants: A Band Apart, Samuel Goldwyn Films, HBO, Material, Disney and many more.

The San Francisco Writers Conference: February 17-19, 2006 It has everything a writer craves—writing workshops taught by bestselling authors, editors and agents looking for new talent, time to network with other writers, and cutting edge information on publishing. This event brings literary agents, publishers and editors from the West Coast and New York to the historic Mark Hopkins Hotel over President’s Day Weekend. If you are serious about your writing career, you should be there too! Genres include non-fiction, fiction, romance, children’s books, thrillers, memoirs, poetry, books-to-film, and cookbooks. Attendees can also include the valuable event within the event Speed Dating for Agents where attendees can search for the perfect literary agent!

The 1st Annual River City Write Off: Short screenplay competition, sponsored by Yellow House Films, aims to bring together new writing talent and the Richmond film community to produce a short film in the spring of 2006. Unlike most screenwriting contests, the River City Write Off does not simply pass the winning script along to Hollywood readers. Instead, the winning writer will take part in producing their script. The baseline production budget is two thousand dollars and will be augmented by entry fees. The submission deadline is February 10, 2006.

The 6th Annual DIY Convention: Do It Yourself In Film, Music and Books, will be held February 5-12, 2006 at the Egyptian Theatre and Roosevelt Hotel, both located in the heart of Hollywood. The event will feature national and regional independent cutting-edge film screenings; extensive panels and workshops; and more.

The 2006 Backspace Writers Conference (July 21 & 22, New York City, Algonquin Hotel) brings together 14 top literary agents, 9 editors, 5 New York Times best-selling authors, and many other publishing professionals for a two-day, two-track event in the heart of the publishing world. Keynote speakers are Sara Nelson, Editor-in-Chief of Publishers Weekly and Richard Curtis, top literary agent and long-time author advocate. Panels, workshops, and pitch sessions round out the program. Hour-long mixers each afternoon (refreshments included) afford plenty of time to mix and mingle with program participants, as does the awards banquet at The Algonquin Hotel Friday night. Beijing International Book Fair

The Beijing International Book Fair has been held successfully for 8 sessions since it started in 1986 and the exposition of the year 2000 had developed into a large-scale international book fair with an exhibiting area of 26,000 square meters with publishing units from 40 countries or regions participated and 0.12 million visitors attended. From the year 2002 and on, Beijing International Book Fair will be held once each year and the electronical audio-video publications will be added to it.
