IN Bolsters Tsunami Relief

South Asia and East Africa currently need your assistance. In the aftermath of the earthquake and resulting tsunamis on December 26th, 2004 there are currently 300,000 people killed by this disaster.

That death count will continue to rise until the situation is under control and relief plans can be put into place to ward off famine and disease.

Then there will begin the rebuilding of 11 different countries' infrastructures, in various degrees of extreme damage, with years of economic hardship needing to be overcome.

- The death toll will be 80,000 in Northern Sumatra alone

- In an instant millions will be left homeless

- Tsunami is Japanese meaning "harbour wave"

- A single Tsunami is a series of waves, not one wave

- Tsunami's can last for several hours

- Tectonic plates shifting towards each other cause earthquakes which create Tsunamis

- This was the 4th largest earthquake recorded since 1900 worldwide

- This specific, large scale plate movement is called "megathrust fault"

- Size of quake measurement was 9.0 on Richter Scale

- 11 countries hit from Indonesia to Somalia

- The force equaled 20 WWII atomic bombs

- Billions of dollars in economic loss
