Not too long ago, my daughter and I were going to town for something or another, and on the way, we noticed two deer standing in a cornfield. They were just standing there, looking at our car. I said to Katie, "Hey, look! There are two deer in that field." She admired the deer for a moment, and a small brown shape raced across the road in front of our vehicle.Pausing for a moment, I quipped, "Hey, look, there's an itty bitty deer crossing the road in front of my car, isn't it adorable? It's so cute!!!" Katie, convinced momentarily that it was, in fact, a deer, looked at it and said, "Oh, it is so cute!" But, moments later, she said "Mom!" in her best for-Pete's-sake stern voice, "it's not a deer, it is a rabbit."
I'm not supposed to tell you this story because she tries so hard to be cool, but I laugh every time I think about it. She'll get over it. I'm sure.
