My birthday comes during the month of June. This year I am turning 44. I doubt I'll have a party for myself, but, that week my son graduates from high school, so we'll have people over for that.
My husband and I recently stopped having large crowds of people at our house for birthday parties. Over the years, we had friends and family over for birthday parties. It was usually 33 people by the time you counted all the kids and adults. My children blew out their share of candles over the years and received many birthday cards.
I still remember a time when I was a child, 37 years ago, inviting my entire 2nd grade class to my home for my birthday party. It would have been a great day, except for one small detail, which ended my party getting off the ground. I neglected to inform my mother! As two children arrived at my house, my totally surprised and disgruntled mother was at the door, explaining that there was no party and they didn't have to leave their gift because she didn't know anything about it.
I didn't know that she was supposed to cook the food and what not. I was just a kid. I still remember the doorbell ringing. I still remember that day because I spent it with Mom and Dad instead. Birthday cake was always angel food cake with marshmallow frosting and sprinkles, and ice cream. Over my lifetime, I saved some of the birthday cards I received. Greeting cards are something that one should never take for granted.

One of the reasons I started this website on greeting card writing is due to the “famous” tip sheet. Starting out as a few paragraphs written individually to countless people who inquired about this unique genre back in the early 1990s, it had evolved to over six pages—sent to the 75 + weekly inquiries I received—and still receive—in my e-mail box. And while I still cherish and welcome the individual e-mails people send to me with their stories, I felt it was time to streamline.
